Street Scene 2005

Friday: Hard-fi and Hot Hot Heat were pretty good. Hot Hot Heat singer has a weird voice and his movements remind me of Devo and Brandon Flowers (the keyboard mostly). Rise Against was pretty good and Louis XIV was really good live. I missed Kasabian. I saw part of Flogging Molly, Black Eyed Peas, and Social Distortion en passant. I saw the beginning of the Whites Stripes. They started with Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground, I Think I Smell a Rat, and Jolene. I saw most of the Killers but I missed Under the Gun. The Killers concert was amazing of course. While I was leaving I saw the Stripes perform the end of Seven Nation army.

Saturday: Spoon was awesome. I heard Death Cab For Cutie but I didn't see them. They sound good. Unwritten Law was really good. I missed The Used to see The Flaming Lips. The Flaming Lips were incredible. I wish I had seen The Used because I heard they were amazing live. I saw the beginning and end of the Pixies and most of 311. They were both decent.

Rambling about the Lips: The Flaming Lips started out with Wayne Coyne (lead singer) rolling around on top of the crowd in a giant inflatable hampster ball. One of the first songs they played was Bohemian Rhapsody. It was the best cover I've heard so far on Bohemian Rhapsody. The audience was crazy. During Do You Realize, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robot, and She Don't Use Jelly the audience was really hyped up. They ended with the song War Pigs. I can't believe they pulled off such good covers on both War Pigs and Bohemian Rhapsody in the same night.

So where were the spiders while the fly tried to break our balls?

I woke up before 6:00 yesterday to go to Harvey Mudd. It is an awesome school. I like the fact that it is small because there is a larger facilities to student ratio than there are at bigger schools. I bought a Bread album and a Queen cover album at Rhino Records. The Queen cover album sucks. My dad wanted to look at cars in Escondido so we did that on the way back. Then... Carm, starbucks, Brian and A. I talked to Alice on Brian's phone. -A. Souplantation craziness. Blasting under the gun. The spot is broken. -C. Driving through Rancho race course. Downtown... lasertag. I came in third. Somewhere. Denny's with A and B. -A. Blog reading. Cribbage. Sleepness. Turkey sandwich. Mmmmmmmm. That was a CBAB day. Like AC/DC/BC/CC... but not.

Crimson red. Life is a lemon. I can't wait for Street Scene.

I'm not a boy, I am a lemon!

Yesterday: Allen from NY, Stoy, Brian, and George. Boba. Trippy playground.

Today: Foo Fighters and the plan. Tripin' with the high-starch vegetable man. Eatin' lemon bar and cheesecake on the blue bench. Gaviota. Roundabout in Carlsbad. I want Yes. Bohemian Rhapsody at full volume rocks. Mmmm.... David Bowie. Avocado hell with the half gallon of milk. Oh What a Night.

Zaireeka

The Flaming Lips are known best for their song She Don't Use Jelly. I first heard of them from the song Do You Realize? which is still my favorite song by them. In 1997 they came out with an album called Zaireeka. The album is a four cd set and requires all four cds to be played simultaneously for the full experience. It is best if the cds are played from seperate devices placed in seperate places in the room you are listening in. I listened to the album once last night and I'm listening to it again right now. It's difficult for me to say which disk is the main disk because a few of the songs have the main vocals on disk three but disk one seems to have most of the instrumental. The drum solo on track seven requires all cds to be experienced properly.

Zaireeka is creepy. There are parts of it where all four disks are screaming in pain. There is one track where a good portion of the track on disk one is a shrill squeeling sound that reminds me of Paul screaming (it's painful). The album has to be listened to multiple times all the way through because you can't easily pause it and there will always be some part of a song you missed last time you listened to it. This style of recording would have worked great for a song like Revolution 9.

I can't wait to see The Flaming Lips at Street Scene.

I'm here everyday as far as I can tell

Aditya's birthday was fun. It was fun seeing people I haven't seen much of. It was nice seeing Jeff and Taylor. I ended up at Rocky and I'm not quiet sure how. Ben was there... 'nuff said. Difficulties. It was one of those Rockys that was great as Rocky but not so much as not-Rocky. Denny's was packed because of the races. Lightning + Mishka = peace. I stood on a wall watching lightning in the north-east and south-east for about an hour. I love the night. As for the rest of those at Rocky I do not know. I hope everyone else had a good day overall...

He said add more mirrors
I said that's a good start

flaming spud

Don't put the potato in the wrong end of the launcher. A loud noise and flame may occur.

I replaced the mechanism that moves the window up and down in our minivan with my dad, Mishka, and George today. Unscrew, unscrew, bang goes the window! I still wonder why we didn't take it to a mechanic rather than fix it ourselves. At least it's fixed and I learned something along the way... sort of.

PVC pipe, glue, and parts of an irrigation system... mmmm. kiwis, ham, and lemonade.

Fridays I go painting in the louvre

Berkeley is awesome. Tommy's has alright hamburgers. Davis is too hot. I like fog. I got Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon stuck in my head on the Golden Gate bridge. I love the Night At The Opera album! I saw a girl who used to work at Starbucks in the Highlands and now works at the one in Berkeley. Berkeley tour. Drive. Brian. I exist.

The Woz's catch phrase: "God damn Steve I told you that would happen!"

dirt in your fries

I'm leaving tomorrow. I'll see people next weekendish.

Rocky was good. Beach and Paul. Garden State is my favorite movie. School is a month and a half away. You say stop, and I say go, go, go.

2005-07-14

we go out in storm weather

Aditya and George. Rubios. Stoy. 404 Bob not found. Brian and Paul at Boba. Omlettes at my house. Stoy and Paul. Park. Rocky tomorrow night.

Well it only goes to show
And I told them where to go
Ask a policeman on the street
There's so many there to meet

It's ticking away with my sanity

I found out with all of the things I have booked for this month I will have four days free this summer until August 14. Those days are currently July 31, August 1, August 2, and August 4. The rest of the days consist of trips to four colleges (not my choice), two birthdays, a SOAD concert, Street Scene, Rocky Horror Picture Show, a trip to Northern Cal with friends, and a trip to Catalina with family.

I'm going to try freeing up some time because I hate booking my schedule like this. Unfortunately the only thing I can currently take off of my schedule is the trip to Northern Cal. I want to see the people going on the trip but I'm really not that big on booking whole days away for a trip. I'll either go on it or work out a way to see them after the trip since I have free time those days. I haven't seen much of some people in a while so I need to make some plans sometime. I can't wait till August 14... but I like a good amount of the stuff until then (northern cal, SOAD, street scene, rocky, birthdays) so I guess life's good. At least I'm occupied...?

Well I’m so tired of losing- I got nothing to do and all day to do it
I go out cruisin’ but I’ve no place to go and all night to get there

the agony and irony...

2005-07-12

time heals all

Bike ride, highlands, 4 in a park not quiet dark, potato with food and great dessert, three-way call, stoy and exploration. Change is all around. Just accept it.

Who can say where the road goes,
Where the day flows?
Only time...

Pass through my life like a dream through my head

I was on vacation. Now I'm back. I won't go into the gritty details. I vaguely put wrote stuff about it on many moblog posts while I was gone. Vacations are nice but sometimes I just want to be home. I had fun and now I'm here. Look around around around. I have souvenirs from the things that were in my pockets when I came back.

I went to Moonlight with lots of people I haven't seen much of in a while. That was a nice change. Moved Carm's furniture earlier today and Mishka and I couldn't find anyone for a while. Brian and Paul. Mishka is sick. Brian + Music. I have had so many songs stuck in my head off and on I won't even try listing them here. I want to quote half of the Bright Eyes songs I've heard, some Bob Marley songs, some Floyd, and a lot more.

I found out I love Bright Eyes for a few reasons. I love how the recordings of the vocals are purposely very unprofessional sounding. There is often static and echoing or talking in the background which gives the songs that raw feeling. I love the random "Revolution 9" style chaos in some of the songs. Many songs have strange talking and awkward instrumental parts. The metaphores and symbolism used in many of the songs is obsessive sometimes. Fevers and mirrors uses symbols a lot but some of the other songs have symbols. Some metaphores that I made up myself are mentioned in their songs in correct context and it's kind of creepy. The emotions of the songs are expressed very well (it is emo music after all). Bowl of Oranges is NOT the only good song by them by far. I still love that song best though.

reminds me of long ago
mid-June night turned morn
we poured out like words
we spent time well
it was time well kept

Oh babe, I hate to go

I went to a wedding today and a wedding rehearsal dinner on Thursday. I am not much of a party person. At least I don't like it when I don't really know anyone there well. I'll see you all July 10. I might see some of you before than actually. That would be strange. I've been saying good bye to people for days now and I'm finally leaving. I'll keep myself occupied. I'll probably be posting on my moblog a lot. I've had lots of old songs stuck in my head and some new ones. Weddings have music. Music is good. Maybe that means weddings are good. MMmmmm.

Already I'’m so lonesome
I could die

That's wrong... I may not like apricot jam but at least I have some jam on my bread.
